2 Maoists held and arms seized in Bihar
Patna, Jun 12 (PTI) Security forces apprehended two suspected Maoists and recovered arms and over 100 rounds of ammunition in Banka district of Bihar in the wee hours today. Officials said the two Maoists, identified as Sikander K and Arjun K, were nabbed around 3 AM during an anti-Naxal operation, led by CRPF, in the Pilua-Suiya area of the district. The security personnel also recovered an INSAS rifle with two magazines, 120 rounds of bullet and a hand grenade, they said. The operation was conducted by the 131st battalion of Central Reserve Police Force deployed in the area, along with state police, they said.
Maoist wanted in June 2000 case arrested in Giridih
Dhanbad: A Maoist who was wanted in an ambush case of June 2000 was arrested in Giridih late on Friday night. The rebel, identified as Hussain Miyan, a resident of Teliya Bahiyar village of Giridih district, was with the outfit for more than 16 years, police said on Saturday. “Hussain and 50-60 Maoists had attacked a patrolling party and brutally killed two police personnel in 2000. They also looted their arms and fled from the spot,” said Giridih SP A B Variar.tnn
Bokaro block development officer gets ‘Red threat’ from Giridih
Bokaro: The block development officer (BDO) of Nawadih, Arun Oraon, has been threatened by suspected Maoists to leave his job and the district within 15 days or his office will be blown up. Police are verifying the authenticity of the letter that was sent through post bearing a receipt stamp of Giridih. A police officer said, that a few more BDOs deployed in Giridih received similar threat letters. Three months ago, Petarwar BDO of the district had also received threat messages from the Maoists. Oraon received the letter when he was in his office. “It was about 5 pm when my peon gave me the letter. I immediately informed the Nawadih police station,” said Oraon.
DC Rai Mahimapat Ray and SP Y S Ramesh on Saturday visited Nawadih police station and inquired about the matter. The DC has spoken to the BDO and asked him not to be afraid as his security has been enhanced. “We are taking the threat very seriously. Security has been enhanced in Nawadih block office. A guard has also been allotted to the BDO for his security,” said SP. Oraon lives in a government quarter near Nawadih block office. The entire staff of the block office has been wary of the letter as Nawadih is a Maoist dominated area. The BDO held a meeting with the staff and asked them not to worry.
