Hardcore naxalite held with arms and ammunitions
A hardcore Maoist was arrested today with arms and ammunitions from a village under Chakai police station area in Bihar’s naxal-infested Jamui district, a police officer said. Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Jamui police and Special Task Force (STF) raided Batpar village this morning and nabbed the hardcore Maoist, identified as Sona Ram Marandi, said to be a close associate of Chirag Da, an Area Commander of CPI(Maoist) of Bihar and Jharkhand regions, Additional Superitendent of Police (ASP), Operation, D N Pandey said. Two detonators, two catridges, explosives materials and a looted motorcycle have been recovered from him, he said. The ultra was wanted in connection with several incidents of naxal violence in the district, the ASP said.
Alleged Maoist and two couriers arrested
The Venkatapuram police have arrested an alleged Maoist militia member and two couriers from Chhattisgarh during a vehicle checking drive near Charla in Bhadrachalam division on Saturday. According to police, the arrested include “Maoist militia member” Kunjam Deva, 20, of Charla mandal in Khammam district, “couriers” – Karam Hanumanthu, 19, and Kambala Satish, 28, of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. Rs.75,000 seized A police team engaged in the task of vehicle checking nabbed the them while they were allegedly travelling towards Charla on two motorbikes in the morning.
The police seized Rs.75,000 cash and two bikes from them. The police said the trio were on their way to Charla to purchase some medicines and other provisions for the rebels of Pamedu area in Chhattisgarh. The arrested Maoist militia member was allegedly involved in digging pits on Pusuguppa-Voddipeta villages in Bhadrachalam division along with several other militia members on August 1 this year, police sources added.
Senior STF official killed in Maoist ambush
An assistant platoon commander of Chhattisgarh STF, K P Singh, was killed and a constable, Santosh Yadav, was injured in a Maoist ambush in Darbha region of Bastar district early on Saturday morning. A resident of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh, Singh was in the police for over two decades and had good experience of anti-Maoist operations. “We have lost a brave soldier. It’s a long battle,” said ADG (Naxal Ops) RK Vij.
Explosives Seized in Koraput Forest
KORAPUT:Security forces have seized huge quantity of explosive materials during combing operation that has been going on in forests of Koraput district since Friday. On a tip off, BSF jawans started combing forests in Narayanpatana, Bandhugam, Laxmipur, Boipariguda, Lamataput, Potangi and Nandapur pockets on Friday morning and recovered 120 detonators, two guns, as many clamour mines and huge quantity of other explosive material and live wires. BSF sources said combing would continue in all Maoist-prone areas for the next couple of days.
Earlier on Thursday evening, there was an exchange of fire between CRPF, Kandhamal police and the Maoists at a forest near Sarapaju village in Kandhamal district. When the police were engaged in combing operation in the forest near the village, a group of Maoists opened fire at them. The security forces retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for around 25 minutes before the Maoists escaped into the forest.
