Three high intensity IEDs recovered in Bihar’s Gaya district
Gaya, Aug 10 (PTI) The security forces today recovered three high intensity Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from roadside in Bihar’s naxal-affected Gaya, a senior police officer said. During search operation, the CRPF jawans recovered three powerful IEDs lying on the ground in Luchitand village, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.
While one IED weighed 25 kg, two others were 20 kg each, he said. The explosives were defused by the bomb disposal squad, Maharaj said, adding that prima facie it appeared that the Maoists had planted the IEDs to carry out subversive activities. The recovery assumed significance in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gaya yesterday to address the NDA’s ‘Parivartan Rally’ at Gandhi Maidan ground.
Over 400 can-bombs recovered in Maoist den
RANCHI/Daltonganj: The state police foiled a major bid of the CPI Maoist to target them when security personnel recovered around 400 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hidden in the earth in Latehar and Palamu districts on Saturday and Sunday. State police spokesperson S N Pradhan said: “250 IEDs were recovered on Sunday and 162 on Saturday in Maoist dominated forests spread across Latehar and Palamu.” All the IEDs have been safely disposed off. Latehar and Palamu are the two-hotbeds of Maoist activities.
In Palamu security forces killed 12 “Maoists” in June against which Maoists had called bandh. The Maoists want to avenge the death of the 12 people who they have claimed were innocent and killed in cold blood. “The Maoists are desperate to attack policemen. The bombs were hidden with anti-landmine vehicles and police patrolling parties in target. We received intelligence inputs and unearthed the explosives,” Pradhan said.
A senior police official said the IEDs were planted in a way to cause police patrolling party utmost damage. Security experts said that the idea was to not allow policemen any room for escape when they are trapped. “One blast would have resulted in a series of blasts,” said a police officer.
