The rebellion of the women in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan-MLKP

Since the brutal murder of Özgecan Aslan, a 20-year-old student by a driver in Mersin, Turkey, ten thousands of women in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan have been rebelling. In Mersin, Gazi antep, Ankara, Adana, Istanbul, Amed, Hakkari, Manisa, Aydın, Çanakkale, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon, Nusaybin, Siirt, Yüksekova, Doğubayazıt, Muş, Van, Ağrı, Derik and many other cities actions took place to protest this brutality. Women have been in action all over Turkey and Northern Kurdistan to protest violence and social dominance of men against women and the patriarchal system holding the flag of rebellion in their hands.

In many actions the women didn’t only protest against the violence by their brothers, fathers, boyfriends and husbands, but also against the AKP regime that fosters this violence. When Erdogan and Davutoglu, the leaders of this regime, make propaganda on scorning women, then they are also responsible for the results that are murder, rape and violence. When they explain in public that women and men naturally can’t be equal, when they tell women how to laugh, to dress and how many children they should give birth to, they directly foster women to be treated as slaves in Turkish society. The results of these politics are the rise of violence against women in the last 12 years of the AKP’s dominance for 1400%.

And this is only the number of cases registered. Violence isn’t only used in house but also frequently on the streets, in buses and trains, at work places, schools and universities and all areas of life. The statistics show that men using violence are rarely sentenced although they had been reported to the police. 350 police men, soldiers and warders were on trial for rape in the last 15 years, but none of them was sentenced. According to official figures nearly 50% of the women over 15 years experienced physical and sexual violence by their boyfriends or husbands. More than 60% of men declared that they find it correct and important to use violence. In such a situation the rebellion and anger of women is justified. The rebellion of women against patriarchalism and the AKP regime supporting this is justified, too.

This struggle must be continued in different ways. The conscious must be created that freedom of women won’t be achieved neither under the dominance of the fascist AKP regime nor capitalism. Working and labourer women must have an objective interest in the revolutionary collapse of this system and the creation of socialism. Looking at the regions that were liberated after the national democratic revolution in Rojava that is a women’s revolution at the same time, we can see the effect of a revolution in terms of liberation for women. Women had been in the first ranks during the heroic resistance in the Rojava revolution and in Kobane. By that they have been an example for the people in the Middle East and all women all over the world. Like that, women twice exploited must join the first ranks within the revolutionary and labourer movement in Turkey and stand up against the fascist AKP regime.
