BSF personnel in Odisha seized explosives planted by Maoists
Rayagada: The BSF personnel on Thursday seized explosives planted by the Maoists inside Kumbahriput forest in Rayagada district. A team of BSF personnel came across four electronic detonators and four bundles of wire lying on the road side while going for a combing operation inside Kumbahriput forest on Thursday morning. BSF assistant commandant Harindar Singh said the Maoist had planted the explosive devices only to target the security personnel as this is the only route that connects Bhedaguda with Kumbahriput.
Maoist general strike on July 24
IMPHAL: July 16: Manipur Maoist has called a general strike on July 24 against alleged embezzlement of crores by Agriculture department, Government of Manipur. In a statement made available to the media signed by its secretary publicity and propaganda, Nonglen Meitei has stated that it will be a 12 hours strike starting from 5 in the morning. The statement has alleged that in these few years the Agriculture department has embezzled huge amount of money that comes through various schemes such as Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, (RKVY), Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), System of Rice Intensification (SRI) etc.
It said RKVY was instituted for the welfare of the farmers in agricultural and its allied sectors. The allied sector includes Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fishery, Dairy Development, Forestry and Wild Life, and agricultural research and training etc. The statement has alleged that the total amounts of fund that have been embezzled are more than 200 Crore, distributed among a handful of bureaucrats and ministers by table work manipulation. The outfit has further maintained that the finding is just the tip of the ice berg. It said embezzlement has been going on in the said department for a long time. This was evident when a former Director of the department gave kilograms of gold as dowry gift on his daughter’s wedding, according to the statement. The outfit has appealed to the people for their support to the general strike. The strike has been called in the general interest of the people of Manipur and more particularly for the toiling agricultural workers whose rights have been violated. If the authority concern fails to look into the matter, the outfit will take serious note of it, added the statement.
Naxal wanted in several crime cases arrested in Kondagaon
A Naxal was arrested and a cache of ammunition and electronic gadgets recovered in separate incidents in Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district, where security personnel exchanged fire with rebels, police said. Jugdhar Muria, a member of banned CPI (Maoist), was nabbed from his native Lakhapuri village under Mardpal police station limits on Tuesday evening, Surjit Atri, Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police, told PTI.
Acting on a tip-off that the 45-year-old ultra had arrived at his native place, around 300 km from here, a police team was mobilised there. The team surrounded the village and apprehended Muria, he said. He was involved in several incidents of crime, including attacks on police personnel, looting of weapons and arson. Muria was produced in a local court, which sent him to jail, Atri added. In a separate incident, security personnel recovered a cache of ammunition and electronic gadgets after busting a Naxal transit hideout in Kilam forests under Mardapal region. A joint squad of Special Task Force (STF) and district force was on an area domination exercise in the region since Monday.
On sensing that security forces were near restive Kilam village, around 35-40 armed rebels, led by “commander” Mangesh on Tuesday opened indiscriminate fire on them, he said. The security personnel retaliated and the gunfight lasted for about an hour, but no casualties were reported from either side, the ASP said. The rebels later fled to the core forest area after setting their camp on fire. However, police managed to recover a walkie-talkie, tiffin bomb, live cartridges, a couple of hand grenades, detonators, wires, tent, radio, items of daily use and food material from the encounter site, Atri added.
Three Naxals Arrested; Woman Commander Surrenders in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Three naxalites were arrested and a woman Maoist commander surrendered in separate incidents in insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said. The ultras were apprehended during a joint search operation in Durgukondal police station area today, Kanker Superintendent of Police R N Dash told PTI. A joint contingent of 72 battalion of BSF (Border Security Force) and district force was on a combing operation in the Durgukondal region, around 250 kms away from the state capital, since yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of ultras in the core forests, they rounded them up, the SP said. Those arrested were identified as Ganguram Nareti (40), Sadaram Darro (38), natives of Saraghughamre village and Golram Nareti, resident of Hulghat village, he said. They were involved in several incidents of crime, including attacks on police party, loot, arson and others, he added.
