Six Dharmapuri men detained under NSA for alleged naxal links

DHARMAPURI: Six among the seven people from Natham Colony in Dharmapuri district, who were arrested for their alleged naxal links, have been detained under the National Security Act (NSA). The order to detain M Durai, 46, G Shankar, 35, S Sakthi, 36, S Athiyaman, 23, C Santhosh, 22, and G Ashok, 26, was issued by district collector K Vivekanandhan on Friday morning, police said. The order was served to the accused who are lodged in the Salem central jail. The accused belong to the dalit community. They were members of Thudi, a Maoists organization, police said. Police claimed to have seized arms from the accused. They were booked under the Arms Act, the Explosives Act and different sections of the IPC.

..However, what, has been cause for concern to the people in the Northeast, particularly those in Assam, is the series of reports of renewed insurgent activity largely due to the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland trying to establish links with a Bhutan-based Maoist militant outfit. If the former somehow manages to establish links with the latter, then what will be its implications in the insurgency-hit Assam is anybody’s guess…
