Ex-Office Bearer of Panchayat Samiti Shot Dead by Naxals
A former office-bearer of a village panchayat samiti in the district was killed by Naxalites, police said today. Around three-four armed Naxalites barged into the residence of Etapalli panchayat samiti’s former deputy chairman – Ghisu Mattami – last night, when he was sitting in the courtyard with his wife, and fired at him, they said. The Naxalites immediately fled from the spot. Mattami was admitted to a rural hospital at Etapalli where he was declared dead by doctors, police said. Mattami’s wife Lalita, the present chairman of Etapalli panchayat samiti, escaped unhurt in the attack. Police have launched a search for the assailants and are conducting further investigation. This is the third major attack by Naxalites in Gadchiroli district this month.

RANCHI: Two major Maoist attacks in less than a year in Dumka division has prompted the state police to be alert and proactive in carrying on with the anti-Red operations. Instead of leaving it on district police alone, a battalion of the highly trained Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) has been deployed in Dumka. Police chiefs of three districts – Dumka, Pakur and Godda – attended a meeting chaired by DGP, Rajiv Kumar to discuss ways to tackle Maoist menace in the state. Senior police officials, including IG (operations) ML Meena and DIG Dumka range were also present.
