63% polling in Seemandhra till 3pm; Maoists burn EVM, vehicle

The polling concluded by 4 PM in two Naxal-affected Assembly seats near Visakhapatnam. A group of Maoists burnt an EVM and a vehicle at Palakagidi of Koyyuru Mandal in Visakhapatnam district before fleeing. Repolling has been ordered at the polling station, a police official said.

Landmine recovered during anti-Naxal operation in Saranda

A powerful landmine was detected by the security personnel during an anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda forest in adjoining West Singhbhum district today, a senior police officer said. The recovery was made when the security personnel were on a combing operation in the naxal-affected Saranda forest, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Kiriburu) R M Bakhla. Bakhla said the landmine, weighing around 15 kg, was planted on the Karampada-Kiriburu road under Kiriburu police station area to target the security personnel. Later, the bomb disposal squad defused the explosive in the jungle.

Maoist held with weapon

A Maoist was arrested today with weapon from a locality under Goh police station area in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, a police officer said. Acting on a tip off, the police held the Maoist, identified as Laxman Yadav, and grilling him recovered a country-made stengun and three rounds of ammunition from Dulapur canal, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ajay Narayan Yadav said. A self-styled area commander of the CPI(Maoist), Yadav was wanted in connection with an ambush on a Special Auxillary Force (SAP) unit last year and murder of a Ranvir Sena ultra Sushil Pande, he said. The Maoist hailed from Khaira village under Konch police station area in neighbouring Gaya district, the DSP said.

Dumper engaged in government enterprise set ablaze by Maoists

A dumper engaged in a government enterprise was set ablaze by Maoists at Musaboni in East Singhbum district late last night, police said on Wednesday. Over a dozen Maoists arrived at the Bakra pool area and torched the dumper belonging to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), the police said. The dumper was engaged in the Bagjata mine of UCIL. Musaboni Deputy Superintendent of police Bachandeo Kujjur said the motive behind the incident could not be ascertained. Meanwhile, the security personnel have launched a massive combing operation in the Maoist-affected Ghatsila sub-division to track down the ultras.
