Two Borei Keila Women in Hospital From Clash

Two residents of the Borei Keila community remained hospitalized Sunday after a Valentine’s Day clash with authorities on Friday that left 19 people injured, a community representative said. Although most of the 19 were only slightly injured, two women were more severely hurt and are still receiving treatment at a local clinic, according to community representative Pich Limkhuon.

Morocco police beat Sahrawi protesters as British MPs visit: NGO

Plainclothes Moroccan police violently broke up a peaceful pro-independence protest in the Western Sahara city of Laayoune after a visit by a British MP, a prominent Moroccan rights group said Monday. About 100 activists, including women, gathered on Saturday evening in the neighbourhood of Maatallah, despite police efforts to block the protest, according to Hamoud Iguilid from the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH). “All the citizens who tried to protest were attacked by the police, and especially plainclothes police,” he told AFP, speaking by phone from Laayoune, adding that he had not been informed of any serious injuries.

Kenya: Endorois Youth Protest Against Land Grabbing

Youth from Endorois community on Friday engaged police in a riot. The chaos led to the closing of Nyahururu- Kinamba Road for long hours. The youth were protesting against alleged grabbing of a 1,600 acre plot at Tuiyobei in Marigat district, Baringo. The youth, who came in lorries and motorbikes wanted to invade the farm that they say is community land. Marigat deputy county commisioner Saul Maywaywa and Marigat police boss Otulia Kaunya deployed regular police, the AP and forest guards to intercept them at Gatero area before they arrived at the farm.

African Illegal Killed in Clash with Saudi Police

An African illegal was killed in an altercation with police in the Saudi city of Jeddah over the weekend, AFP reported. A police spokesman said the incident took place Saturday as police were searching migrants suspected of being in the country illegally. “When the police tried to arrest one of the Africans, the members of the group attacked them with a blunt object, which led them to open fire in order to take control (of the situation),” the spokesman said. According to Saudi police, a bullet ricocheted and hit one migrant in the head, causing a fatal wound.
