CPN-M targets Maoist boss Dahal today as well
MYAGDI: The dissident alliance led by the CPN-Maoist, which has been intensifying anti-election activities of late targeting UCPN-Maoist, has continued the obstructions in the ongoing poll campaigning today as well. The dissenter has announced transport strikes in Parbat, Baglung and Myagdi districts of western part of the country on Thursday where UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled today to attend election assemblies. Transport service on major highway and other roads have been halted due to the strikes, causing inconvenience to the people.
Min Bahadur Baniya, the District In-charge of the Alliance and the CPN-Maoist’s District Co- in charge, responded the transport closure has been organised as part of their programme of barring the leaders of the four major parties from entering into the districts. Currently, the Maoist boss among others top leaders are attending election assemblies in Pokhara city. After these campaigns, Chairman Dahal will head to other districts in western part, Dahal’s personal secretariat told THT Online. Earlier yesterday, the poll-opposing alliance had shut down Kavre and nearby area that forced Chairman Dahal to use chopper for his election campaigning.
Arsonists torch election candidates’ vehicle in Dang, Arghakhachi, Baglung
DANG, OCT 31 – Vehicle belonging to Nepali Congress candidate from Dang-2, Sushila Chaudhary, was torched by unidentified men on Wednesday night. The Bolero Jeep (Lu 1 A 4523) parked at the house of local Yubaraj Bhusal at Lalmatiya-4 was torched at around 2 last night.
Both the front tyres of the jeep have been damaged in the inferno. Meanwhile, police have been investigating the incident. Likewise, the vehicle (Ba 9 Cha 9646) was vandalised at Satbariya-1 of the district. It has been learnt that the employee of NCELL was driving the vehicle during the vandalism. Rayamajhi’s vehicle torched Vehicle belonging to UCPM (Maoist) candidate from Arghakhachi-1, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, was torched in the district headquarters last night. The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 2360) was torched by unidentified group while parking at Pump line along the road side in the midnight.
The inner part of the jeep has been completely damaged in the fire. Bus, jeep totched in Baglung The bus and jeep used for the transportation of UCPN (Maoist) cadres was torched in Baglung last night. The bus (Dha 1 Kha 540) was torched by masked men nearby Bihu-4, Pidanla in the district at around 10 last night. Meanwhile, Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to address a mass assembly in Baglung, Parbat and Myagdi today. Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist has called three districts shutdown today to hinder Dahal’s programme. Likewise, passenger jeep (Lu 1 Ta 2898) was also torched at Amarbhumi VDC of the district last night. Police have been investigating the incident. With the much-anticipated Constituent Assembly (CA) election drawing close, the rising anti- election activities have been posing challenge to security arrangements.
Security focus on general strike
KATHMANDU, OCT 31 – Chairman of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi on Wednesday instructed security chiefs to focus on the 10-day general strike called by the CPN-Maoist. He also asked them to make special arrangements in districts marked as ‘most sensitive’ during the November 29 election. A meeting with Regmi at Singha Durbar was attended by Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel, Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Chief of Army Staff Gen Gaurav SJB Rana, Nepal Police chief Kuber Singh Rana, chief of the Armed Police Force Kosh Raj Onta and chief of the National Intelligence Department Moti Bahadur Gurung, among other officials. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said the discussions focused on creating a peaceful environment for the election, while they discussed all security issues concerning the polls.
The government’s integrated security plan for the election has categorised 16 districts as ‘most sensitive.’ A majority of these districts, according to a report prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, are in the Tarai, where 71 of the 116 constituencies fall under this category. The Home Ministry has categorised districts like Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Dang, Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu and Rupandehi in the Tarai and Rolpa, Pyuthan, Kalikot and Taplejung as ‘most sensitive’ ones.
Bomb terror grips Kapilvastu‚ Chitwan
KAPILVASTU: A bomb was found planted at the premises of UCPN-Maoist party office in Gajehada VDC in the district on Thursday morning. According to Chief District Officer Krishna Chandra Ghimire, a bomb disposal squad of Nepal Army disposed the explosive. It is still unclear who planted the explosives. Likewise according to RSS, a stray bomb was spotted at resting platform at Bharatpur Municipality-5, Lanku in Chitwan district this morning. Locals were terrorised after the explosive was found at the busy chowk in the town. The explosive is wrapped in a black bag. The bomb disposal squad of the Nepal Army’s Shumsher Dal Battalion later defused the bomb.
The District Police Office, Chitwan said an investigation is on to track down the people responsible for planting the bomb and their motive for doing so. Petrol bombs hurled at NC leader Paudel’s vehicle Meanwhile in Tanahun, an unidentified group hurled petrol bottle bombs at Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel’s campaign vehicle. The vehicle (Ba 6 Cha 7555) came under attack at Ruptar, Ramjakot VDC-2 in the south of the district. The windscreen of the car has broken due to the attack took place at around 1 a.m.
Unidentified men detonate bomb targeting Poudel
TANAHUN, OCT 31 – An unidentified group detonated petrol bombs at the residence of one Govinda Ghimire in Ramjakot-2, of Tanahun district, where Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel had slept at midnight on Wednesday. Leader Poudel is contensting the election s from Tanahun constituency-2. According to Nepal Police sub-inspector Amrit Bahadur Lamichhane, the blasts damanged certain parts incluiding windopanes of Poudel’s Scorpio Jeep (Ba 6 Cha 7555). The assailants detonated four petrol bombs and fled leaving behind five other petrol bombs on the scene after the security personnel resorted to retalitation, police said.
Fifteen security personnel including seven from Nepal Police, seven from Armed Police Force and one personal body guard were deployed for Poudel’s security. NC President from constituency-2, Jhul Bahadur Ale Magar said the attack was carried out by those trying to create anarchy. He said it was attempt to spread terror among the people, fearing the wave of support in favour of Nepali Congress. No one has yet taken the responsibility for the incident. Meanwhile, CPN-Maoist district secretary Atindra Keshari Neupane has said that the party has not attacked Poudel with petrol bombs.
