CPN-M cadres obstruct UCPN-M election campaign
JAJARKOT: The cadres of CPN-Maoist have obstructed the election campaign organised by the UCPN-M at Karki Gaun, Jajarkot on Wednesday. The campaign which was supposed to be addressed by Shakti Basnet, a politburo member and candidate for constituency No. 1 of the district was obstructed by the CPN-M cadres chanting slogans, CPN-M party secretary Imashwor Devkota Birag said. He said that they would not let the election to happen which is going to be held under the direction of foreign force. During the protest, the CPN-M cadres gheraoed the venue and chanted slogans demanding all candidates take back their candidacy, boycott the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, fulfil the dreams of martyrs, and end the four party syndicate. Following the obstruction, the CPN-M organised corner assembly, Birag informed.
CPN-Maoist cadres seize, burn voter’s education materials
PARBAT, OCT 23 – Cadres of the poll-opposing CPN-Maoist seized and burnt the voters´ education materials in different VDCs in Parbat district on Tuesday evening. A team of 15 to 20 cadres of the CPN-Maoist looted and burnt the voters´ education materials sent to Limithana, Thanamaula and Bhangara VDCs of Constituency number 2 of the district. The CPN-Maoist has also warned the candidates to bar them from running the publicity campaigns.
Social mobilizer Jiblal Timilsina of Thanamaula VDC said that they were obliged to give the voters´ education materials to the cadres of the CPN-Maoist after the latter reached Timilsina´s home asking the election materials. The CPN-Maoist cadres have seized the posters, question-answer books, brochures, flip charts and sample ballot papers from the social mobilizers.
CPN-Maoist men loot UCPN (Maoist)’s election publicity materials
JAJARKOT, Oct 23: Cadres of the CPN-Maoist have looted the election publicity materials of the UCPN (Maoist) at Rimna VDC in Jajarkot district on Tuesday. The election publicity materials were being supplied to Khagenkot and Dandagaun VDCs of Constituency No. 1 in the district. The poll-opposing CPN-Maoist cadres looted two mikes, 1000 pamphlets and 130 calendars, according to the UCPN (Maoist) leader and coordinator of the Constituency No. 1 Dambar Rawat. Likewise, the cadres of the CPN-Maoist thrashed Ram Kumar KC of Khagenkot for carrying the publicity materials.
CPN-M cadres set woman on fire
RASUWA: In a yet another spill out of the anti-election violence from dissident forces, a 37-year-old female cadre belonging to UCPN-Maoist has been set on fire by a group of CPN-Maoist cadres on Wednesday morning. The injured has been identified as Laxmi Acharya of Banuwa, Laharepauwa VDC-3, Rasuwa district. She was reportedly set on fire with kerosene after she refused to hand over to CPN-Maoist cadres her party’s election publicity materials stored in her shop.
The irate local cadres of the UCPN-Maoist, however, have claimed that Acharya was attacked with acid, not kerosene. It has been learnt that Acharya has sustained serious burn injuries on her body and face. She was immediately rushed to the Trishuli Hospital for treatment. Locals and witnesses said the group led by CPN-Maoist district secretary Bhim Bahadur Khadka was behind assault on Acharya. They are said to have fled the scene after the incident.
UCPN-M campaign jeep set ablaze in Kaski
POKHARA: A group of unidentified persons suspected to be CPN-Maoist cadres set ablaze a jeep being used by UCPN-Maoist for election campaign on Wednesday morning. The Bolero jeep (Ga 1 Cha 5143), was being used by Bishnu Paudel, UCPN-Maoist candidate for upcoming CA elections from Kaski constituency-1. UCPN-Maoist Kaski district chapter informed that the arsonists piled up hay into the jeep and burned its down at Sidda VDC-6 here.
Leader Paudel said that he was sleeping when the jeep arson took place at around 4 am this morning. Paudel commented that the parliamentarian forces resorted to the violence as his victory in the CA elections is “indisputable”. Police have initiated investigation into the incident. Preliminary investigations have indicated the involvement of CPN-Maoist cadres behind the incident, police said. Earlier, leader Paudel was in Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist. However, he switched sides, joining UCPN-Maoist after he was offered with election ticket from the constituency where he is said to be influential.
