CPN-Maoist puts off Feb 10 Nepal bandh

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist has put off the February 10 general strike that it had called nationwide to protest the prosecution against the Maoist cadres in the 2004 murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa in Dailekh. Issuing a statement on Monday, Maoist Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal that the Nepal bandh was rescheduled to February 19 as the Tamang Lhosar and marriage ceremonies befall on February 10.

The Maoist party has claimed that the prosecution in the conflict-era cases is against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Interim Constitution of Nepal. The splinter faction of former rebel party has demanded the immediate release of five Maoist cadres, who it called political prisoners, from custody.
