CPN-Maoist imposes Bheri-Karnali bandh to protest Dailekh arrests

KATHMANDU: The Bheri-Karnali State Committee of CPN-Maoist imposed one-day bandh in Bheri and Karnali zones on January 28, demanding the immediate release of the Maoist cadres held in Dailekh in connection with the 2004 murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa. The State Committee charged that the security administration initiated a conflict through the arrests, which it dubbed as a breach of the Comprehensive Peace Accord and the Interim Constitution, as orchestrated by the national and international forces that are against the peace process. Issuing a press note on Saturday, the party committee repeated that the conflict-era cases should be resolved through Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It further asked the people, journalists, human rights activists and political parties to be aware to the ploy.
