Four Maoist supporters arrested

BERHAMPUR: Four supporters of Maoists were arrested by police during combing operation from Bhaliaguda forest on the Ganjam-Gajapati district border. Some arms and ammunition, including a country-made gun and pistol, four bullets and 20 detonators were seized from them, police said on Tuesday. Those arrested are Kalia Mallick, Bulu Mallick, Jalandhara Mallick and Surendra Mallick from Gajapati’s Bhaliaguda village within Mohana police limits, police said. They were arrested from the forest during the search operation on Monday and produced in court on Tuesday, police said. These persons were strong supporters of Maoists and helped them in the area, he added.

With this, the number of Red rebel supporters arrested has reached five after the November 14 encounter in the area. Earlier, police had arrested Junesh Digal of Bahada Sahi village in Kandhamal district. “Digal was involved in the encounter and several Maoist incidents,” police said. On the basis of their information, police suspected Pradeep, one of the associates of Sabyasachi Panda was seriously injured during the encounter on November 14. They, however, did not tell the location, where he was undergoing treatment, police officer said.
