Explosives seized from Naxal hideout

Security forces on Monday morning seized large quantity of ammunition, explosive materials used for making bombs, Naxal literature, daily use items and pithhu from the hideout of Maoist insurgents located in dense forest after an hour long gun battle. Deputy Inspector General of Dhamtari range BPS Pausarya told newsmen in a Press briefing that on getting information that large a number of Maoists were presence in Gariaband area, a joint team of district police and Central Reserve Police Force 65th Battalion was sent on search operation.

The team confronted a group of Maoist insurgents belonging to Sonabeda dalam and Dharam Bandha dalam who were holding meet in the forest of Maragaon village, some 45 kilometres away from district headquarters under Navagarh Chowki area (2 km from Sikasar barrage). Seeing the security personnel approaching them the rebels started intense firing which continued about half-an-hour. Security personnel also returned the fire in matching strength firing 152 rounds within half an hour. After that the insurgents fled into dense forest taking advantage of rugged terrain crossed over to Odisha border. In the post operation search police found large quantity of ammunition, explosive materials, wire, fuse, dress of Nxals, daily use items and literature from the spot. CRPF Commandant SK Singh also briefed newsmen in this connection.
