Two Naxal commanders surrender in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Two Naxal commanders from Orissa on Sunday surrendered before Chhattisgarh Police in Sukma district, police said.

“Sanna alias Sudhir (22) and Ramesh alias Aakash (25) both ‘section commanders’ from Odisha – had expressed their desire to join the mainstream and arrived in Sukma about 15 days back. They laid down their arms today,” Sukma SP Abhishek Sandilya told reporters.

Sanna and Aakash had joined Naxal movement in 2004 and 2006 respectively and were elevated as ‘section commanders’ and given SLR rifles.

Sandilya said the duo was disappointed by the “high handedness” of senior cadres from Andhra Pradesh.

“The duo told us that Naxal leaders during their posting subject tribals in Chhattisgarh to injustice,” Sandilya said.

The Naxals will be given assistance as per Rehabilitation Policy of Chhattisgarh government, the SP said.
