NPA firearms seized in ComVal

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Government troops seized assorted firearms and explosives during an encounter Wednesday with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Montevista, Compostela Valley. Lt. Col. Cesar Molina, 25th Infantry Battalion commander, said the recovered firearms include one M16 rifle, one cal 30 carbine rifle, an improvised landmine (IED), one fragmentation grenade, explosive devices, and other personal belongings.

He said Army troops engaged some 20 NPA rebels while conducting security patrol at Purok 9, Liloan, San Vicente, Montevista, Compostela Valley for almost 30 minutes. No one was reported injured from both the government and rebel group. “The local residents have tipped off the authorities on the presence of NPA rebels who have been harassing them,” Molina said.
