Maoists torch JCB machine at Gomia

Suspected Maoist cadre torched a JCB machine at a road construction site at Shastri Nagar in Chutte Panchayat of Gomia on Monday night, causing a loss of about Rs 20 lakh to the builder. The road between Chatrochati and Kapsa in Gomia block — a Rs 30-lakh project — is 40 km from the sub-divisional town of Bermo. Gomia police sources said some 50-60 people reached the construction site and beat up the munshi and others labourers. They then took out the diesel and set fire to the JCB machine.

According to police sources, more than 60 rebels in police uniforms set ablaze the machine in the presence of hundreds of villagers. The police did not venture anywhere near the site at the time. Sources said nearly 60 rebels were hiding in the forest since late afternoon. While burning the machine, they shouted slogans against Bokaro Police for anti-Naxal operations at Jhumra hill. They also left behind pamphlets daring the police to scale Jhumra again.
