Ranchi, Oct.16 (ANI): The government continues making efforts to curb the Maoist menace and bring misled youth towards the mainstream. Jharkhand Police has recently chalked out a scheme to rehabilitate surrendered naxals by offering them a job in the police force. If this brings a better career option for those who have abjured violence, for police administration it will help to curb Maoist insurgency from the region. “There is a provision in the surrender policy that if the person is physically fit and meets all the provisions required for the recruitment in police force with no criminal case pending against him can join the police.
There are some cadres who are part of a Maoist outfit, but have no FIR registered against him/her, can be brought into the mainstream after the surrender,” Akhilesh Pandey, the president of the Jharkhand Police Association. Over a dozen of naxals have laid down their arms in Jharkhand under the government’s rehabilitation-cum-surrender policy. The surrendered naxals joining the police can help to trace naxal hideouts in the jungles. However, the police is taking all precautions before hiring the surrendered naxals. “We have to develop faith among them. If 10 rebels surrender, I don’t assert that not even a single of them is going to deceive us.
There is always possibility of them harming the police force. But we are alert about that. We have our own network and we will proceed after proper investigation. I want to make it clear that our counter surveillance machinery will continue,” Pandey said. A number of youth in Jharkhand were forced by the naxals to join their outfits. Many of them are willing to return to their homes. Police and civil administration continues to adopt newer ways in providing them a suitable platform and chance for a better living. (ANI)
