PUCL demands probe into arrest of tribals

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties today urged the National Human Rights Commission to issue orders to investigate the recent arrest of four tribals in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district. In a letter to the NHRC, PUCL’s life member Shashi Bhusan Pathak said that Manraj Korwa (21), Vinod Korwa (19), Paras Korwa (45) and Madan Khalko (27) were arrested for possessing naxal literature. Urging for a probe into the charges, the letter claimed the Korwas not only belonged to a primitive tribe, but were illiterate and had no money to fight their cases.
