A group of Maoists burnt a vehicle at Batrunda village under Paikmal police station limits in Bargarh district at about midnight on Sunday. They have also threatened through leaflets to blast the Paikamal police station on Tuesday.
According to source, MD Raish is the headman (Gauntia) of Bartunda village and one of his family members was shot dead by the Maoists six months back. He has over hundred acres of farmland in the village and, on the other hand, he is also a contractor.
Following consolidation and ceiling, a few acres of land had come under ceiling and it was distributed among some landless person of the village. Although the landless persons got records of right over their lands, they were unable to take possession of the concerned lands from the Gauntia. This had forced the Maoists to issue threats to the Gauntia time and again. Even, they killed one of his family members six month back.
More than 100 Maoist came to Raish’s house on Sunday night giving slogans and burnt a Tata WagonR of Raish.
On March 18, the Maoists had killed MD Etar who was the elder father of Raish. Four persons were killed by the Maoists in Paikmal block and they had also burnt a country liquor factory, kendu leaf godowns and some eight motors vehicles.
The Maoists have actively resorted to violent acts in the Paikmal and Jharbandh police station limits during the preceding one year. They have also threatened through leaflets to blast the Paikmal police station on 25th of this Month, source said. Investigations are underway to nab the offenders, said Bargarh SP Anup Krishna.
