Security forces raids Maoist hideout in Bastar; 100 kg explosives seized

RAIPUR: In a major joint operation, security forces have destroyed an arms manufacturing unit of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) and seized huge quantity of explosives from a forest area near Nilamadgu near Farsegarh in Naxalite affected Bijapur district in tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Bijapur district superintendent of police R K Das said the security forces, comprising central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), district police and Special Task Force (STF), stormed a Naxalite hideout in the dense forests and raided the arms manufacturing unit late in the night.

About 100 kilograms of explosives, 150 detonators, and materials to be used for manufacturing of country made weapons, China torch, 300 metres of wires, 12 bore and muzzle loaded guns and Naxalite literature were seized during the raids.

The raid was carried out by a team of 150 security personnel following a tip off that a large number of Maoist rebels were camping in the area.

Police said no encounter took place during the raids as the Maoists left the spot by the time when security forces advanced towards the area.
