One SI killed, 3 injured in Maoist attack in Jamui

Munger: A sub-inspector of police (SI) in Jamui district was killed while three other sub-inspectors sustained serious injuries when they were attacked by a group of Maoists in Jamui district on Wednesday.

Jamui DM Mayank Barbare said TOI on Wednesday that a police party was taken aback when it was ambushed by the extremists in the afternoon near a temple known as Gidheshwar temple under Khaiara police station. Seeing the police proceeding onward, the Maoists suddenly attacked the police vehicle killing an SI J K Singh and causing serious injuries to three other SIs including Kamleshwar, Janardan Modi and Rajeshwar Mahton. The injured were rushed to Jamui Sadar Hospital, where the doctors referred them to PMCH for treatment in view of their serious injuries, police said.

The CRPF jawans camping nearby rushed to the place of occurrence to help the police force. The extremists, while retreating after attacking the police party, triggered a landmine blast to prevent the police from proceeding further. However, no casualty was reported from the landmine blast caused by the Maoists, sources said.

Jamui DM said the police have started combing operation to nab the Maoists, who attacked the police party. He said the Maoists have been surrounded by the police unfazed by landmine blast. Jamui SP Upendra Sharma is monitoring the combing operation, sources said.
