Police today arrested seven persons including five on charge of acting as couriers for CPI (Maoist) and two armed militia members for allegedly firing on a police official in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, the cadres including Dummugudem mandal Maoist secretary Mohd Jani Pasha and member Koti Muthyal Rao and three others were working as couriers for Maoist organisation of different committees in Khammam and also for Chattisgarh-based Maoist leaders for the past eight years.
A special police party attached to Dummugudem Police station and CRPF personnel apprehended the five couriers during vehicle checking near Dummugudem cross roads while they were moving on bikes, a senior police officer said.
Police recovered 50 gelatin sticks, Rs 40,000 in cash, some medicines, snake anti-venom, besides five cell-phones from the possession of the couriers.
Similarly, police also arrested two armed militia members identified as M Chukka and Makkammudda, who were part of a 150-member militia group from Chattisgarh which fired on a police official belonging to Mothugudem in May, though the Sub-Inspector had escaped unhurt, the senior police officer added.
