THE shooting of two women, one fatally, in an altercation with a policeman yesterday afternoon, sparked a massive protest in Yallahs, St Thomas, yesterday.
Up to press time, the police were unable to provide official reports on the incident, however, reports from protesters who converged on the Yallahs Police Station suggest that the women were shot after they became involved in a tussle with a policeman who attempted to arrest one of them.
It is understood that the woman who died was pregnant, while the other remains in hospital.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer last night, superintendent Michael Smith of the St Thomas police division said efforts were underway to collect statements and to calm the angry protesters.
However, he said he was unable to provide more details as police investigators were still gathering statements.
