However, all leaders were for launching a strong movement raising the issues of national independence and increasingly difficult livelihood of the people. “The only option ahead will be struggle if the parties fail to forge consensus,” said party secretary Dev Gurung.

Politburo member Hari Bhakta Kandel said the national independence has become the key issue that has affected federal republic and the problem of inflation and corruption were increased because of the absolute control of the agents in the state mechanism.

Kandel said the CC meeting will discuss in detail on the effective preparations of the upcoming National Convention of the party scheduled for January 9-13.

Yesterday general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa had presented the agendas for the meeting while Baidhya had presented his political document including the political and organisational assessment of the past few months.

Baidhya said the party should devise a plan for launching the struggle for national independence and livelihood of the people.

“The meeting will strongly raise the issue of dissolution of the four-party syndicate and urge them to involve all the sections of the society while taking decision on the issues of national importance.” He said that the strength of his party has already reached satisfactory levels both in the country and abroad.

According to Kandel the meeting will also endorse the decisions taken by the national convention main organising committee led by Secretary Netra Bikram Chand. The meeting will resume on Friday.

During today’s meeting General Secretary Thapa was absent because of illness while secretary Netra Bikram Chand — the brain behind the split of UCPN-M, has not appeared in the meeting because he is currently in China visit.
