Three Maoists arrested; mine-making ‘lab’ found

A raid by a joint CRPF and Bermo Police team on Friday unearthed a Maoist hideout in Balkhoranala, where the rebels were experimenting with making powerful landmines.

The police nabbed three hardcore Maoists at Baltharwa village and got information on the hideout from them. The area comes under Mahuatand Police Station. They recovered three landmines, six local-made bombs, a pipe bomb, two tripods and 5-kg of chemicals.

During preliminary interrogation, Jailal Mahto, Mahendra Mahto and Binod Mahto confessed to their involvement in a number of cases related to arson and murder, according to sources. The police have also gained information on the rebels’ plans, along with activities in the neighbouring Bihar and Chhattisgarh, sources added.

Two companies of the 26th Battalion of CRPF, Assistant Commandant Sadan Kumar, Deputy SP Santosh Pathak, officers in-charge of IEL and Mahuatand police stations Suresh Prasad and Mani Lal Rana were pressed into action. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Bokaro SP Kuldip Dwiwedi.
