The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police had arrested Sadana Ramakrishna in March from College Street area. A case was started at Jorasanko police station. Later the case was handed over to NIA.

“Several incriminating items were seized from the accused including cash of Rs. 96,66,755, prohibited ammunition, explosive material, Maoist literature, several diagram and literature on rocket launchers and other weapons, documents connected with the transport of components and assembly tools and materials to Raipur, Chattisgarh from Kolkata and Mumbai,” said Vikas Vaibhav, SP, NIA in the charge sheet.

According to the charge sheet, the cops had seized several finished components of rocket launchers and other area weapons including 69 wooden crates at godowns in Raipur and Kolkata. Ramakrishna was in charge of the city warehouse.

“Investigation revealed that in pursuance of the conspiracy, after the formation of central technical committee, charge was handed over to Basavraj, politburo member, Deoji, a central committee member by Ganapati, general secretary, CPI(Maoist),” Vaibhav said in the charge sheet.

According to the charge sheet, from 2002 to 2006 technical units were established at several places like Pune, Rourkela, Indore, Bhopal and Bhubaneswar under the close supervision and guidance of Sadanala alias Sadula.

From 2008 onwards Sadanala established Naxalite teams in Kolkata and Thane and started procuring raw materials and finished component of weapons.

Some of the components were processed in local workshop established for that purpose by the team members of Sadanala.

The other arms were processed in local workshop by mechanics and workmen who were provided with designs and detailed diagrams or samples of certain parts. Several firms in Kolkata and Mumbai were contacted for the purchase of component parts and assembly tools.

The finished products, assembly tools and related items were being regularly sent to Raipur, Chattisgarh.

These items were further transported to forest of Dandakaranya, Abhujmaad where Maoists were supposed to assemble the complete arms by their mobile assembly units.

“During investigation, several items which seemed to be the components of weapons along with diagram and supportive literature were sent to the Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata for opinion. The expert of the board opined them to be the components of rocket launcher, rocket propelled grenades, 51 mm mortar and other weapons,” Vaibhav said in the charge sheet.

According to the charge sheet, Sadanala and Deepak Kumar were operating under fake names in Kolkata and Mumbai and manufactured fake identity proof documents. Both of them purchased flats at Birati and were staying there.

During NIA investigation, the role of top Maoists leaders like Ganapati, Basavaraj alias Keshav Rao, Deoji, Somji and Prabhakar was established in procuring and manufacturing of the rocket launchers.

The NIA has also established the role of Bengali engineer Asimkumar Haranath Bhattacharya who used to supply designs of rocket launchers to the Maoists. Bhattacharya would be given supplementary charge sheet.
