Odisha: Naxal Shot Dead In Police Encounter in Koraput district

Report by Manoranjan Routray, Koraput:  A Naxalite was on Sunday killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel after a joint team of DVF and District police destroyed a Maoist camp under Bandhugaon Police station limits in Koraput district.

The face-off between the security men and Naxals took place in Bada Mathur jungles at Bandhugaon area after the team reached at the site in combing operation on information about enlarged Naxal activities in the area, Koraput SP Abinash kumar said.

According to police, Naxals opened random firing on seeing the team following which they retaliated, leaving one Maoist dead. The others escaped from the spot taking advantage of the dense forest.

Moreover, a 303 rifle and kitbags were recovered from the encounter site, where a Naxal team had set up a temporary camp, police sources said.

According to initial reports, the dead body found was identified as Teli Kadraka alias Rajendra of Tala Pottesh Village of Bandhugaon Block who was commander of Jhanjabati area committee of CPI Maoist.
