Report by OD bureau; New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday urged the Central Government to provide more central forces to tackle Maoists menace in the state.
After a meeting with Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at New Delhi, Patnaik told media “Our requirement of two more batallions of central armed force for the state should be urgently met and deployed in some districts of Odisha.” The CM also reiterated his demand for two military helicopters. The helicopters will act as a ‘force multiplier’ while the additional two battalions of CRPF will provide a fillip to anti-Maoist operations in Koraput and Malkangiri, he said.
He also urged the centre to continue the socio-economic programmes under the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) in the Maoist affected areas. Patnaik also demanded the release of about Rs 126 crore that the state Government had proposed in a revised Action Plan under the Security Related.
