2 NPA rebels killed in Albay

MANILA, Philippinse – Two rebel soldiers of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with government troops in Barangay Caguiba, Camalig, Albay early Saturday.

Camalig Police chief Insp. Frande Echaluce said the Army soldiers were conducting mobile patrol prior to the gunfight, which only lasted for a few minutes.

The fatalities have yet to be identified by authorities.

There are no reported casualties from the government side.

The military said the rebels may have been involved in extortion activities in the remote area of Barangay Caguiba.

Pursuit operations for other NPA rebels in the area are still ongoing. –
