Independence Day celebrations today passed off peacefully except in Manipur where four persons were injured in bomb blasts even as chief ministers asked extremists to join the mainstream.

Official sources said in Imphal that the first explosion was reported from interior Thoubal district at a fair ground, near the district headquarters, at around 8 AM while arrangements were being made to celebrate the occasion.
Four persons were injured and taken to a nearby district hospital. Their condition was stated to be critical, the sources said.
Three more bombs exploded in the capital complex in Imphal while Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was giving his speech at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground where the main function was taking place.
