Communist rebel captured

JOINT police and military operatives have arrested a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Zamboanga del Norte province, a top police official said Friday.

Chief Superintendent Napoleon Estilles, police regional director of Zamboanga Peninsula, identified the arrested NPA rebel as Joy Casisid, 27, a resident of Buntol, Antique.

Estilles said Casisid was arrested around 9 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Mandih, Sindangan town.

Casisid was arrested after policemen and soldiers swooped down in Mandih village, following the report of a presence of an unidentified armed man in the area, Estilles said.

Casisid admitted during interrogation that he was a new recruit of the NPA’s Secom B Feliciano Committee headed by a certain Ka Elyong, Estilles said.

Confiscated from Casisid’s possession was a .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade, he said.

The police have already intensified its intelligence operations aimed at locating Casisid’s comrades.
