Odisha Combing operation intensified after tribal SPO’s killing

Malkangiri: After the killing of, Ajit Sodi, a tribal Special Police Officer by the Maoist rebels at Podia in the district yesterday, the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) Forces accompanied by the local police have intensified combing operation to nab the assailants.

The ultras had fired at indiscriminately at Special Police Officers when they were reportedly moving in the local market at Podia killing Sodi on the spot. While, Sodi’s colleague Lachhmaya Madkami was sustained serious injuries, the others manage to escape unhurt.

Soon after the incident, the rebels fled the neighbouring Chhattisgarh bordering Podia by crossing the nearby river, sources said. We are after the rebels to take the revenge of the Sunday’s heinous attack on the SPOs, said a police official on conditions of anonymity.The body of the Sodi was brought to the District Police Office here today where a guard of honour was given to the martyr.

District Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh and other police officials also paid their last respect to Sodi. After the Sunday’s incident, the tribal SPOs who are playing a key role in anti-Maoist operation by providing valuable inputs to the armed police force, are in a state of panic anticipating attack from the rebels.

Meanwhile, Lachhmaya Madkami, the SPO who was seriously injured in the Sunday’s attack, was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from the district headquarters hospital here as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Malkangiri continued to remain cut off from Jeypore on the third day of the Martyrs’ Week today as vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear.
