Five NPAs nabbed in series of South Cotabato clashes

MANILA — Five members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were nabbed following a series of encounters with troopers of the 27th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Colongolo, Surallah, South Cotabato last July 19 and 20.

Capt. William Alfred Rodriguez, 1002nd Infantry Brigade spokesperson, identified the captured rebels Julius Amahado; Genevic Sundo; Michelle Nuay Ligar, Aldrin Condiman; and Jonicel Castillo Panalisan.

He added all the apprehended guerillas are members of the NPA’s Front 73.

Rodriquez said that patrolling soldiers chanced upon the group extorting from the farmers of the above-mentioned locality on July 19 and 20.

In the ensuing firefight, five of 30 rebels were nabbed while an undetermined number was wounded.

Rodriquez emphasized that pursuit operations are still ongoing.(PNA)
