On the intelligence inputs from Union Home Ministry of reports suggesting a huge gathering of armed Maoists in the jungles of Palamu and Latehar districts the State Government has been asked to act immediately to dismantle the gathering, security forces have been inducted into the forests to start a hunt for them.
“The area has been liquidated and alerted not only in Latehar and Palamu but adjoining districts also have been alerted as there are fair chances of their infiltrating into the adjoining areas,” said AIG Richard Lakra.
For the locals of Latehar and Palamau, there is nothing new for the area as in the rainy season; the Maoists do take shelter every year as it provides a safe haven for them during rainy season. The area is surrounded by rivers from all the sides hence, it is supposed to be the safest place for their hiding.
It is not easy to cross the river in rainy season for security forces; they remain safe at least for two to three months, said a local. Alerting the Jharkhand Government on Wednesday, the centre had asked it to “induct additional troops and carry out sustained search” for either engaging them in operations or disintegrate them.”
