Odisha:Maoists set afire three vehicles opposing Dantewada attack

While continuing their mayhem, the Maoist rebels set afire three vehicles near Nakamamudi village, some 40 km from here under Chitrakonda police limits on Sunday late night.

The slogan shouting armed rebels, around 20-30 in number including women cadres arrived at the site and poured kerosene over the vehicles .Later they set on fire three vehicles, a mixture machine, proclainer and tractor of Pune based Patil Construction Company Limited engaged in the road construction work under union government sponsored Left Wing Extremists (LWEs) scheme there, an eyewitness said.

All the three vehicles have been badly damaged and construction company people have become frightened after the incident. The contractor suffered a loss of more than Rs 50 lakh.

The Maoists left leaflets on the spot protesting the alleged tribal massacre in Dantewada region in neighboring Chhattisgarh recently. Citing the cop’s Dantewada attack is the reason behind the incident, the Maoists have urged the government to provide the basic amenities to the tribal people.

Construction of roads alone would not serve the purpose of the poor people in the region. Protesting the anti-tribal policy of the government, the rebels in the posters left on the spot have urged the people not to be an informer or a part of the conspiracy designed by the Superintendent of Police.

With the rebels target the road construction companies, the company people are in tense. The latest incident is likely to hamper the ongoing road construction work by the company.

However, common men in the region have disliked the damaged caused to the company property saying it is they who would suffer like any thing once the road construction work is stopped.
