Indore (MP): In a bid to curb the spread of Naxal movement in Madhya Pradesh, State Home Minister Umashankar Gupta on Monday demanded assistance from the Central government to tackle this menace in seven affected districts.
“The Centre has given funds for naxal-hit Balaghat district only so far, but its assistance was required in six more districts including Shahdol, Mandla and Dindori which were also affected,” Gupta who held a high level meeting with department and senior divisional cops here, told reporters.
Though we were effectively combating and tackling the naxal issue as we cannot wait for the Centre to help us, Gupta said, it was necessary to inform the Centre well in advance to meet any eventuality.
Madhya Pradesh had three main issues- organised crimes of dacoity, banned SIMI’s activities and naxalism, he said.
However, the state has managed to contain two issues — dacoity and SIMI — to a large extent, Gupta added.
But the naxal problem is not restricted to MP alone..its a a national problem, he said.
The Home Minister claimed that law and order of the state was much better as compared to others, and added that momentary and petty crimes would be monitored and controlled in a proper way everywhere in the state.
He said the Madhya Pradesh government was working on massive project of installing CCTV camera and tele communication sanctioned at a cost of Rs 96 cr to connect all thanas and headquarters as criminals were getting IT equipped and inter-state crime was also matter of concern, the minister said.
MP also set up a Directorate of Traffic with a post of Additional Director General for effective traffic management in all cities, and a budgetary support of Rs 250 cr was earmarked on the plan, the minister said.
On a question whether the police would take assured action against those officers or minister related to the two businesses trapped by I-T, the minister said, “Let the enquiry get completed. The Chief Minister has already said that no one who is guilty shall be spared.”
Whether MP government is probing any Simi link with Abu Jundal alias Zaibuddin Ansari Gupta said, “Not at this moment when IB is dealing with the case…If required we may share information with the intelligence agency”.
