Gov’t troopers capture six NPAs in Agusan Del Sur

MANILA — Troopers of the 26th Infantry Battalion, a sub-unit of the 4th Infantry Division, arrested six New People’s Army (NPA) fighters during checkpoint operations at Kilometer 41, Barangay Binicalan, San Luis, Agusan Del Sur last Friday.

Arrested were Noel Canhatan a.k.a “Gaby”, member of Sentro De Grabidad Silver, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee; Jackelo Gumansil, alias “Jorge”; Jun Jun Gomez, alias “Jun”; Eyo Gallino, a.k.a “Jigger”; Jaymar Matibulig, alias “Jay”, and Maylen Gomez, alias “May-May”

All of the captured NPA troopers are from Sitio Nakadayas, Barangay Binicalan, San Luis, Agusan Del Sur.

Major Gen. Victor A. Felix, 4th Infantry Division chief, said all six were arrested around 11 a.m. during a routine checkpoint operations at the above-mentioned locality.

Subsequent investigations also revealed the group was part of the NPA assault force that attacked the Binicalan Patrol Base last May 30, where four civilians were wounded.

Recovered from the captured NPAs were one sweat shirt, three cellphones, and assorted documents.

The six were subsequently turnover to the Municipal Police Station of Talacogon where appropriate charges are filed against them.

Felix said that the apprehended NPAs were positively identified by civilian volunteers present at the time of the Binicalan attack. (PNA)
