Jamasi: 3 Students injured in riot

Three students of the Adu Gyamfi Senior High School in the Sekyere South district of Ashanti have sustained various degrees of injury and have been hospitalised at the Apaa Health Centre as a result of vandalism.

School properties have also been damaged as a result of the riot.

One of the students was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle after he and other rioting students were said to be running away from the school during the rowdyism.

The remaining two students are however reported to have been hit by stones that were being thrown at school authorities.

Narrating the incident to Radio Ghana in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Joseph Onyinah explained that the Senior House master punished some students for not attending prep.

The students took offence and complained that their human rights had been trampled upon.

He said the students went on the rampage, after Prep and in the process some of them sustained injuries.

Most of the students fled to town which prompted the school authorities to call in the Police to calm the situation.

The Officer in Charge of the Jamasi Police Station, DSP Ababio confirmed the incidence and promised to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have set up a committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the disturbances.
