In a major incident in recent times in the Vizag Agency, two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire between Maoists and security forces in the Balapam forest region in Chintapalli Agency mandal on Thursday.
Police also recovered 16 kit bags belonging to the Naxalites along with a huge haul of arms and ammunition from the Maoist camp.
A group of special party police who were combing the agency tracts since a few days came across a full company of Naxalites containing not less than fully armed 60 members on Thu-rsday morning. An excha-nge of fire took place. After this, police initially recovered kit bags, and later found two armed male dead bodies, district superintendent of police, G. Srinivas told this correspondent.
Police are now trying to establish the identity of the dead Naxalites and also bring the bodies along with the combing parties to the base camp in the plain area in a special chopper. It is learnt that the Maoist camp in the Balapam forest range was led by Kudumulam Venkat Rao alias Ravi, considered an important and active member of the banned CPI Maoists Andhra-Odisha border special zonal committee (AOBSZC). He carries a cash award of Rs 5 lakh on his head and had also sent feelers to surrender before police in 2009. However, he later retracted and from then, began aggressive inv-olvement in Maoist activities in the Andhra-Odisha border (AOB) tracts.
On the other hand, some of the villagers at Vandrangipadu in Chintapalli Agency mandal told reporters that two persons belonging to their village along with cattle went into deep forests on Thur-sday morning and never returned. They suspected that the two who were kill-ed by police in an exchange of fire are Korapu Tellap-adalu and Korapu Krishna-padalu of Vandrangipadu.
