Suspected NPA men kill CAFGU member

Suspected New People’s Army assassins struck again at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Brgy. Makilignit, Isabela town, Negros Occidental, killing an unarmed member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit in front of his wife and two children, aged 9 and 6.

The victim was identified by Isabela town police chief, Senior Insp. Jayson Mangalimutan, as Paquito Lacton of Brgy. Sikatuna, who was detailed at the CAFGU detachement in the barangay.

Lacton, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was rushed to the Isabela District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, Mangalimutan told the DAILY STAR.

Lacton’s wife, Marita, told the police that they were on their way home at about 5 p.m. Tuesday after purchasing goods for their store, when at least five armed men came out from a grassy area beside the road, shot her husband several times and immediately fled.

She added that two of the suspects shot her husband when he was already lying on the pavement with what appeared to be .38 caliber and a .357 magnum caliber revolvers.

Nearby residents who heard the gunshots came to the aid of the couple but the gunmen had already left. Several slugs of M-16 and M-14 rifles were recovered from the crime scene by both the police and the military
