CCTVs to be installed in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, May 9 – Three districts of Barak Valley are going to have CCTVs installed in an attempt to control insurgency and terrorist problems in the area.

This initiative was taken by DGP of Assam, Jayanta Narayan Choudhury, who spoke to mediapersons on Monday at the Police Guest House on Trunk Road.

Maoist activities in Barak Valley area is not to be ignored, he said. They are supported by the Manipur-based militant organisation RPF, and have already conducted two meetings in the region. According to Choudhury, the Maoists have a definite target of occupying the whole of India by the year 2050. This was his first visit to Silchar after taking charge as DGP, where he met with senior officials of the three districts at the Sadar police station.

Speaking to newspersons, Choudhury said that the police department has its own land which needs to be properly utilised urgently. He also pointed out the requirement of vehicles for police personnel which will otherwise hamper efficiency. The relationship of the police with the public also needs to be improved, he said.

The DGP also held discussions with the Social Welfare Department to establish a juvenile home in Silchar.

During his visit, he was accompanied by the DIG of southern range Vinod Kumar and Superintendent of Police Diganta Bora, among others.
