Protestors block Sohar port entry

Muscat: More than 50 jobseekers gathered at Liwa yesterday demanding employment. The jobseekers then moved to the entrance of Sohar Port after they did not get any positive response from the wali authorities regarding the possibility of employment at Sohar Port.

They headed to the Sohar Port and blocked the entry for a while but the security forces intervened and forced them to retreat. The protest lasted for over four hours.

Ahmed Al Balushi, a jobseeker, said the authorities concerned in Liwa have promised them jobs in the near future.

Incidentally, the employees of the Public Authority for Water and Electricity staged a protest on Sunday demanding more reforms in the organisational structure of the company and salary increment.
It is worth mentioning here that more than 155,000 jobseekers have applied to the Ministry of Manpower and are waiting for their turn to get a job.
