The first day of the 48-hour Andhra-Odisha bandh called by AOB Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist) demanding suspension of Operation Green Hunt passed off peacefully.
According to information reaching here, while life remained near-normal in the mandal headquarters, the interior areas which were Maoist strongholds felt the impact with shops remaining closed and movement of buses and even other private vehicles restricted.
Life in the interior areas of Araku Valley, G Madugula, GK Veedhi, Chintapalle, Pedabayalu and Munchigput was affected. Maoists said Green Hunt was launched to target them. Police checked vehicles and used sniffer dogs in their search for explosives on roads and under culverts.
They advised RTC to reduce number of bus services to interior areas as the bandh call is in force for Monday also.
