DAVAO CITY — Police and military authorities here have launched a manhunt against five armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who torched two vehicles in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental last Sunday.
Police said the two pick-up vehicles, belonging to S.L. Agritech Corporation owned by a Taiwanese businessman in the province, were flagged down at around 11 a.m. by the suspects.
The armed men disarmed the trader’s escorts and directed those aboard one of the vehicles to disembark, after which they torched it. They used the other vehicle in fleeing from the area.
Upon reaching Barangay Mahayag, Banaybanay, the suspects told the driver to get off and also burned the vehicle.
Davao Oriental authorities believed that extortion could be the motive for the incident. (PNA)
