Rebels kill CAFGU

Suspected New People’s Army assassins struck again Tuesday in Brgy. Macagahay, Moises Padilla, by killing an unarmed member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, the military said yesterday.

The victim identified as CAFGU member Dandy Quilanan, who is assigned at the Montilla detachment in Moises Padilla, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in his body, that caused his death.

Quilanan, who was working as a part-time “habal-habal driver”, was on his way back to Sitio Tubod in the barangay, after ferrying a passenger to the hinterlands of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, when he was waylaid and shot by five suspected NPA assassins.

Military records also show that ex-CAFGU member Edwin Flores and John Estoquia, a civilian, were summarily executed by suspected NPA rebels in previous months Brgys. Quinten Remo and Montilla, all in Moises Padilla.

The NPA Leonardo Panaligan Command had claimed responsibility for the killing of Flores, citing his involvement in “illegal and anti-revolutionary activities”, and for being an intelligence asset of the military.

Col. Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said he was saddened by the continuing liquidation activities of the NPA, and their bragging about their summary execution activities.*GPB
