Hit hard by security forces, the CPI (Maoist) has accused the Centre and governments of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh of launching brutal repression on tribals living in Abujhmaad forest in order to wrest the mineral rich land and give it to corporate companies for mining.
Chhattisgarh’s additional DGP (Operations) Ram Niwas, however, termed the allegations as baseless and a typical Maoist propaganda to deflect attention from the bad publicity they have got after abducting the Italian duo and tribal MLA in Odisha.
Dandakaranya special zonal committee (DKSZC) of the Maoists alleged in a statement that more than three thousand armed forces were deployed in Maad (Abujhmaad) under ‘Operation Vijay’ and ‘Operation Haka’ — the biggest offensive till date in the area.
One Adivasi was murdered and another was abducted during massive suppressive campaign of nearly two weeks while more than two dozen villages and several innocent Adivasis became victims of violence, loot, destruction and beatings. After failing to lay their hands on Maoists, the security forces arrested 13 unsuspecting tribals, it added.
Denying the allegations, ADG Ram Niwas told DNA, “The first time security action in Abujhmaad has shaken them and they are resorting to such tactics. No adivasi was killed during operations and all the 13 arrested are Maoists and have been produced in the court.”
