Maoist killed in encounter

Keonjhar, Odisha:  A Maoist ultra was killed in an encounter with security forces in a forest in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Tuesday, police said.

The encounter took place when a group of red rebels, who had taken shelter in Mandadangar forest in Kanjipani area, fired at CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel patrolling in the area, they said.

The security men retaliated and a Maoist cadre was killed in the ensuing shootout, while other members of the group fled the scene.

Efforts are being made to ascertain the identity of the slain Maoist, officials said, adding a search operation has been launched in the area to trace other members of the group.
