NPA rebels snatch heavy equipment, bulldozer operator of city-based construction firm

BUTUAN CITY — Armed men suspected to be New People’s Army rebels carjacked one unit of bulldozer heavy equipment and not contented snatched its operator/driver on Thursday afternoon in Barangay Langkila-an, Trento, Agusan del Sur.

Caraga Police Regional Information Office here at Camp Rafael Rodriguez, Butuan City, identified the kidnapped bulldozer operator of Butuan City-based construction firm EQUIPARCO Construction Company as Demetrio Contemplo.

In a report to Police Regional Office-13 based here in Butuan City, the Trento Municipal Police Office said that on March 22, 2012 around 2 p.m. fully armed suspected NPA rebels arrived at the construction site along national highway in Barangay Langkila-an, Trento town near boundary of Agusan-Compostela provinces in Davao and at gunpoint ordered the bulldozer operator, its helper and all construction workers present to follow orders.

Police added the suspected NPA rebels were under Guerilla Front 20 headed by alias Ka Nestor operating in the area.

Police probers reported that while the said equipment was operating on the ongoing project under the Mindanao Rural Development Project (MRDP) an undetermined number of communist rebels took the equipment including the operator and believed to have been transported to 7K, Barangay Pasi-an, Monkayo, Compostela Valley province.

Police said a Crisis Management meeting was already set on March 26, 2012 to be presided by Trento, Agusan del Sur Vice Mayor Ron P. Agcopra to solve the carnapping of said heavy equipment and kidnapping of the bulldozer operator.

The military claimed non-payment of alleged extortion activities called revolutionary taxes by the Butuan City-based construction firm owner to the communist rebels the military described CNN may have prompted the snatching of the bulldozer heavy equipment and its operator. (PNA)
